Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”.  HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares) and is divided into two construction phases. The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which has been officially put into use in September 2022.

The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees.  At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.

The Urban Governance and Design (UGOD) Thrust in the Society Hub aims to conduct cutting-edging research and disseminate knowledge to assist in the economic and social development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond. In 2024, the UGOD Thrust expects to have an undergraduate program in Urban and Rural Planning. For more information about the Society Hub, please visit /academics/four-hubs/society-hub.

UGOD is looking for two Postdoctoral Fellows for research on 3D neighborhood modeling:

• Point cloud and RGB data integration（点云和视觉数据的融合）

• Multi-modality learning and fusion（多模态学习和融合）

• Point cloud data analysis and processing（三维点云数据的分析和处理）

• Image/video perception/understanding（图像和视频的感知/理解）

• Vision-based 3D reconstruction（基于视觉的三维重构）

• Geospatial Big Data and AI/Deep Learning（地理大数据以及人工智能算法（深度学习）） 

• Neural implicit representation（隐式神经表示）

The candidate is expected to work together with Professor Ge Lin(Personal Web) research team that include Prof Lei Zhu and Prof Lin WANG and a private company in Guangzhou to conduct street level automated 3D model building.

Qualification of Candidates

• PhD degree holder who specializes in disciplines related to computer science and GIS

• Proficiency of written and spoken English

• C++, and AI/machine learning (especially deep learning) toolkits (e.g., pytorch, tensorflow, keras and so on) and frameworks

The position will only be offered to a candidate who can be successfully admitted to The Postdoctoral Research Station in the Chinese mainland.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

The salary offered is highly competitive by international standards and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. Additionally, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided. For candidates successfully admitted to the Postdoctoral Research Station in the Chinese mainland, generous research funds and allowances will be subsidized by the government.

All posts are Chinese Mainland appointment to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.  Initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract of 1 - 2 years commencing immediately.  Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance, mutual agreement, and funding availability.
